Noida: The long-awaited launch of passenger services at the newly built Noida International Airport is finally here. According to ministry sources, the very first aircraft to take off from the airport will be bound for Lucknow, and the passengers chosen for this inaugural journey are farmers.
Farmers Picked for the Inaugural Flight
To mark the occasion, farmers have been selected as the passengers for the airport's first-ever departure. The aircraft will be formally sent off on the morning of June 15. The send-off will take place in the presence of officials from the ministry and DGCA, along with officials from NIAL — including the airport's CEO. The flight will be flagged off for its run to Lucknow.
Commercial Operations Begin on June 15
Noida International Airport is gearing up to launch its commercial operations with domestic flights starting June 15. Reaching this milestone has required extensive groundwork at the airport. The coordination between various systems, processes and stakeholders has been put to the test to ensure smooth flight operations.
These checks also covered the essential infrastructure on which seamless operations depend. This included facilities such as the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS), passenger boarding bridges and the ground power system, whose functioning was examined in detail.
Landing and Navigation Systems Re-Verified
As part of the preparations, the technologies tied to the safe landing of aircraft were also tested. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) approach procedures were re-verified so that arrivals and departures can be carried out with full precision.
IndiGo Had Already Announced Its Plans
Airlines, too, had signalled their readiness for the airport well in advance. Last month, IndiGo had confirmed that it would begin its commercial flight operations from the Jewar-based Noida International Airport from June 15.
