Zimbabwe Cricket has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. The headline decision is the appointment of fast bowler Richard Ngarava as ODI captain for the first time in his career. Alongside this, Innocent Kaia, who recently scored his maiden Test century, has been recalled to the ODI squad. Kaia struck a superb 140 in the lone Test played against Bangladesh, and his rich form has now earned him a spot in the one day side as well.
A New Captain Takes Charge
The biggest shakeup in the Zimbabwe squad this time concerns the captaincy. Richard Ngarava has been handed the ODI leadership role in place of Sean Williams, who is currently going through rehabilitation and was therefore unavailable for selection for this series. Ngarava recently led the side to a historic win in the Harare Test, and it is on the back of that performance that the responsibility of ODI captaincy has now been given to him.
Innocent Kaia's Long-Awaited Return
Innocent Kaia is returning to the ODI setup for the first time since December 2023. Joining him in the 15-man squad are Ryan Burl, Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wellington Masakadza, all of whom have also been recalled after a lengthy gap from the format. Their inclusion reflects the management's growing trust in players who have waited a while for another chance.
The Test Win That Boosted the Squad's Confidence
Zimbabwe recently beat Bangladesh in the Test match by an innings and 85 runs, a result that has significantly lifted the confidence and morale of the players. Riding on that momentum, experienced and senior players like Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervine have also been named in the squad for the upcoming ODI series. The pace bowling responsibility will rest on the shoulders of captain Ngarava himself along with Blessing Muzarabani, while the spin attack will be led by Ryan Burl and Wesley Madhevere.
Series Schedule and Changes From the Previous Squad
Compared to the ODI squad that played against Sri Lanka in August 2025, this time Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Jonathan Campbell, Tony Munyonga and Trevor Gwandu have all been dropped. All three ODIs against Bangladesh will be played at the Harare Sports Club, with the series beginning on July 6. The second match will follow on July 9, and the third and final match will be played on July 11.
