The newly released social drama film 'The India Story' has struggled to make an impact on its opening day at the box office. Starring Kajal Aggarwal Kitchlu and Shreyas Talpade, the film faced tough competition in theatres from other concurrent releases such as 'The Odyssey' and 'Jan Nayakan'. This clash significantly dented the movie's ticket sales, leading to extremely low occupancy across cinema halls on its Friday debut. Despite addressing a highly critical and serious issue, the narrative failed to draw audiences to the big screen, resulting in a very slow and disappointing start.
According to initial box office collection estimates, 'The India Story: Slow Poison in Progress' registered a very cold response on its first day of release. The film managed to secure a net collection of approximately 16 lakh rupees within the domestic Indian market, while its gross domestic collection reached around 18 lakh rupees. Its overseas performance remained completely flat, recording zero earnings from international markets on day one. Considering that the movie was produced with an estimated budget ranging between 20 crore and 30 crore rupees, these initial figures present an incredibly uphill battle for the film to recover its investments.
The Creative Team and Cast Behind the Film
The full title of this cinematic venture is 'The India Story: Slow Poison in Progress', a Hindi-language dramatic feature helmed by director Chetan DK. The movie has been produced under the stewardship of Sagar B. Shinde. Apart from the lead pair of Kajal Aggarwal and Shreyas Talpade, the movie features a strong ensemble of supporting actors, including Murli Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, Trisha Sarda, Atul Tiwari, Kamlesh Sawant, and Sham Mashalkar. Each of these actors plays a pivotal role in bringing the film's gritty social message to life.
A Plot Centered on Farming Hazards and Production Timeline
The core narrative of the film revolves around the widespread use of chemical pesticides in modern agriculture and the devastating health hazards they pose to consumers and farming communities alike. It portrays this chemical accumulation as a silent, ongoing tragedy. The production journey of 'The India Story' commenced in January 2025, with principal photography starting in Pune, Maharashtra. The entire shoot was wrapped up by October of the same year, with several key sequences also being filmed in Kolhapur. Ultimately, the film made its theatrical debut on July 24, 2026, releasing simultaneously in three languages: Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Inspirational Meeting with IAS Officer Tukaram Mundhe
During the promotional run leading up to the release, lead actress Kajal Aggarwal, along with co-star Shreyas Talpade, met with IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe. Mundhe is widely known for his uncompromising stance and strict enforcement of food safety regulations in the state of Maharashtra. Following the meeting, Kajal shared a photograph on social media featuring herself, Shreyas, and the senior bureaucrat. In her post, she expressed how deeply inspiring it was to interact with an individual who remains unwavering in his commitment to doing the right thing, regardless of the challenges involved. She remarked that leaders like him serve as a reminder that integrity should not be treated as an extraordinary trait, but rather as a basic standard. She also noted how fitting it was that their film, 'The India Story', advocates for the very same values of food safety and public health that Tukaram Mundhe has been championing throughout his career.
