Twin Tragedies on the Narmada: Four Drown in Jabalpur and Narsinghpur, Two Railway Project Workers Among the Missing

Four people drowned in two separate stretches of the Narmada river on Sunday. In Jabalpur, the bodies of two friends were recovered, while in Narsinghpur a search continues for two missing railway project workers.

The Narmada river turned deadly on a single Sunday, claiming four lives across two districts of Madhya Pradesh. In two unrelated incidents in Jabalpur and Narsinghpur, four people slipped into deep water and went under. Two of them have been pulled out, while rescue teams are still searching for the remaining two.

Jabalpur: A Young Man Drowns Trying to Save His Friend

The first incident took place at Silua Ghat, which falls under the Barela police station area of Jabalpur. Five friends from the nearby village of Chaukhda had come to bathe in the Narmada on Sunday. As they were in the water, one of them, Dhruv Patel, suddenly drifted into a deep patch and began to go under.

Seeing Dhruv in danger, his companion Sagar Patel jumped in to pull him out. But the water was so deep that the rescue attempt cost both their lives, and the two were dragged down together. Once word spread, local divers reached the ghat and began the search. After roughly three hours of relentless effort, the bodies of both young men were brought out of the water. Police have registered the case and launched an investigation.

Narsinghpur: Two Railway Electrification Workers Go Missing

The second tragedy unfolded at Satdhara Bhimkund Ghat in Narsinghpur district. Here, two workers employed on the Itarsi-Shridham railway electrification project went missing in the river while bathing. The administration has identified them as Azad Singh (25) and Chhotu Goswami (33), both residents of Rajasthan. The sudden accident triggered panic at the ghat, and bystanders immediately alerted the authorities.

Treating the matter as serious, the Narsinghpur administration has gone into alert mode. An SDRF team along with local divers is running a continuous search operation to trace the two missing workers. There was no sign of either man until the time of writing, and the search remains underway.
