Setting an unprecedented benchmark in the Indian capital markets, the initial public offering of Mukesh Ambani's Jio Platforms has garnered extraordinary demand across all investor classes. The issue became the very first public offering in India to secure more than 10 million distinct applications. By midday on the third day of the bidding process, total bids exceeded the offer size by more than seven times. From massive global institutional funds to everyday household retail participants, investor appetite for the technology and connectivity giant remained remarkably aggressive throughout the book building exercise.
Midday Tally Shows Over 1.54 Billion Shares Bid On
Data from the National Stock Exchange indicated that the public issue achieved a comprehensive subscription rate of 7.83 times by 1:00 PM on its third bidding day. Against an available quantum of roughly 19.75 crore shares offered for subscription, market participants submitted bids for more than 154 crore equity shares. This immense disparity between offer size and incoming orders highlights the profound market confidence in the firm. The massive oversubscription reflects strong momentum, demonstrating that domestic liquidity and institutional capital were eager to secure an allocation in the telecom titan.
Institutional and High Net Worth Buyers Drive the Momentum
Qualified Institutional Buyers demonstrated the highest enthusiasm among all categories, comfortably oversubscribing their allocated quota. The QIB portion witnessed a subscription of 16.18 times, with foreign and domestic institutions lodging bids for 81.27 crore shares against the 4.90 crore shares earmarked for the category. Similarly, non-institutional investors, often comprising high net worth individuals and corporate treasuries, recorded a 10.87 times subscription. Bidders in this bucket committed to 39.62 crore shares, easily surpassing the 3.64 crore shares specifically reserved for them.
Broad Participation Across Retail Bidders, Staff, and Shareholder Portions
Retail individual investors participated in significant numbers, pushing their allocated segment to 2.18 times the baseline offering. While 8.50 crore shares were reserved for the retail public, total bids reached 18.53 crore shares. Internal interest was equally strong, as the employee reserve recorded a 2.59 times subscription rate. Furthermore, the quota set aside for existing eligible shareholders of the parent conglomerate saw bids reaching 6.25 times the available shares, proving that existing stakeholders maintained strong belief in the spin-off growth potential.
Anchor Placement Drew Over Thirty Times Demand
Ahead of opening the book to the wider public, Jio Platforms secured roughly 8,110 crore rupees on 19 October through allocations to 212 anchor investors. Shares in that round were placed at the ceiling price of 1,119 rupees per equity share. The anchor book itself experienced staggering demand, clocking bids worth more than 30 times the available anchor inventory. Prominent global institutional powerhouses participated in the anchor allotment, including BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, Singapore sovereign fund GIC, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
Timeline for Share Basis of Allotment and Market Debut
The issue had commenced its public bidding run on 21 October, crossing the 100 percent subscription threshold within barely 100 minutes of the first session. Following this rapid subscription pace, market participants are now focusing on the subsequent timeline for allotment and listing. Share allocation is projected to be concluded by 26 October, while successful investors can anticipate the trading debut of the shares on secondary exchanges on 28 October. Bidders are advised to track official registry communications for final confirmation of allotment status and refund timelines.
