Mixed performance across major indices
Market activity during the opening minutes revealed a significant divergence in individual stock performance. Within the 30-share BSE Sensex, only 11 stocks opened in the green, while 22 stocks faced selling pressure and opened in the red. Three companies, namely Trent, State Bank of India, and Reliance Industries, saw no change in their share prices at the opening bell. The Nifty 50 exhibited a slightly broader upward trend, with 26 out of 50 stocks advancing, 22 declining, and 2 remaining unchanged. Axis Bank emerged as the top performer among Sensex stocks, surging 1.49 percent, whereas Kotak Mahindra Bank faced the steepest opening decline, falling by 2.14 percent.
Stocks leading the positive trend
Several blue-chip companies maintained momentum during the early hours of trading. HDFC Bank recorded a gain of 1.42 percent. Other significant contributors to the positive sentiment included BEL (0.60 percent), ICICI Bank (0.55 percent), Bharti Airtel (0.41 percent), Bajaj Finance (0.28 percent), and Eternal (0.25 percent). Stocks such as Hindustan Unilever, HCL Tech, Adani Ports, and L&T also posted modest gains ranging between 0.15 and 0.21 percent.
Stocks that opened in the red
Conversely, a segment of the market faced early trading pressure. Power Grid shares fell by 0.57 percent, while Tech Mahindra dropped 0.52 percent, TCS declined by 0.47 percent, and Indigo fell by 0.45 percent. Other notable decliners included Asian Paints, ITC, Infosys, and UltraTech Cement, which experienced opening losses between 0.19 and 0.39 percent. Additionally, shares of Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Titan, Tata Steel, and Sun Pharma also started the day in negative territory, showing minor losses ranging from 0.04 to 0.16 percent.
