Balasore Horror: Man Kills Close Friend Over Affair Suspicion, Buries Body in Another District for 21 Days

In Odisha's Balasore, a man allegedly murdered his close friend over a suspected affair with his wife and buried the body in a remote spot in another district, where it was recovered nearly 21 days later.

A chilling crime from Odisha's Balasore district has shaken the entire region. What began as a deep friendship between two men curdled into suspicion and bitterness, ending in murder. The accused, convinced that his close friend was involved in an affair with his wife, allegedly killed him and then buried the body in a deserted location to destroy any trace of the crime. The secret unravelled nearly 21 days later, when police, acting on the accused's lead, dug up the decomposed body.

Where And Who

The case comes from Jamuna village in the Nilgiri block of Balasore district. The deceased has been identified as Birendra Behera, a resident of the same village. The accused, Biren Madhei, was his close friend, and the two were known to share a strong bond.

The Root Of The Suspicion

According to the family and the investigation, the friendship soured after an alleged illicit relationship surfaced between Biren Madhei's wife and Birendra Behera. The dispute had already created tension in the village earlier. It grew serious enough that a panchayat had to be convened to settle it, where a compromise was reached between both sides and the matter was treated as closed.

However, it is alleged that despite the apparent settlement, resentment continued to simmer in Biren Madhei's mind. He is said to have threatened to kill Birendra on several occasions.

A Job Offer Used As Bait

The sequence of events began on May 25, when Birendra Behera received a phone call asking him to come to Kaptipada for a dumper driving job. Hoping for work, Birendra left home, but he was allegedly kidnapped near Jamuna Chowk on the way. After that, there was no trace of him.

When Birendra failed to return home, his family grew anxious. His wife, Savitri Behera, filed a complaint at the police station on May 31, alleging that his friend Biren Madhei had called him and taken him away somewhere, after which all contact was lost. The victim's brother later also filed a complaint with the police, and the search intensified.

The Accused Cracks Under Questioning

Once police began investigating on the basis of the complaint, several startling facts emerged in the early inquiry itself. Suspicion turned towards Biren Madhei, who was detained and questioned. After sustained interrogation, the accused broke down and confessed to the entire crime.

What The Investigation Revealed

During questioning, it emerged that Biren Madhei had taken Birendra to a spot near his in-laws' home and killed him there. According to the preliminary investigation report, the body was then carried to a deserted location in the Udala area of Mayurbhanj district and buried in a pit so that no one would learn of the crime.

Guided by the accused, police reached the spot. The ground was excavated in the presence of a magistrate and the Barampur police, and the badly decomposed body of Birendra Behera was recovered. Having lain buried for several days, the body was in an extremely poor condition. It was taken into custody and further legal formalities were completed.

The Investigation Ahead

Police have arrested the accused and stepped up their probe. Investigators are now trying to establish how the murder was planned, who else may have been involved, and how the entire chain from the abduction to the burial was carried out. This story of friendship, an alleged affair, kidnapping and murder has deeply disturbed local residents, and police are examining every aspect of the case in detail.
