Residents living in unauthorized colonies across Delhi now have a structured opportunity to secure legal ownership of their properties. The Delhi government has introduced an initiative aimed at granting official property titles to people residing in 1,511 unauthorized colonies. Citizens seeking to register their houses in their own names can submit their applications online through the Swamitva portal before the deadline on October 31. To assist citizens through the process, district-level camps are also being set up across the city.
District Weekend Camps for Public Guidance
The scheme has seen significant public interest, with approximately 2,500 residents already lodging applications to register their properties. In response to this strong turnout, the Delhi government is collaborating with local MLAs to hold special weekend camps every Saturday and Sunday at the district level. These camps are designed to guide property owners through the step-by-step procedures, inform them about total estimated costs, specify necessary documentation, and accept fresh applications for property surveys directly on site.
Five-Step Procedure for Obtaining Property Registry
To obtain legal ownership rights for a house situated in an unauthorized colony, applicants must follow a defined multi-step workflow. First, property owners need to register themselves on the dedicated Swamitva portal. Following successful registration, a team from a designated GIS company visits the location to conduct a detailed GIS survey of the property and its surrounding area. Once the survey is completed, the applicant must log in to upload key documents, including their Aadhaar card, chain of property ownership records showing historical purchase or possession documents, and a recent electricity bill. Upon thorough verification of these papers, the MCD issues a digital signature certificate. Finally, the processed file is transferred to the Revenue Department for the completion of the official land registration.
Survey Fees and Essential Submission Mandates
Submitting an application triggers the property survey, which incurs a dedicated fee of Rs 1,200. However, the total cost required for final regularization and property registry is calculated based on the specific dimensions and category of the property. Municipal officials have stressed that simply registering on the Swamitva portal is insufficient to gain property titles. Currently, a large number of applicants are completing initial portal registration but failing to upload the mandatory ownership documents. Revenue officials clarified that applications lacking required supporting documents will not be approved or processed further.
