Akhilesh Yadav Questions Bengal Poll EVM Fire: '4,000 Machines Burning Reeks of Suspicion'

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took to X to question the burning of 4,000 EVMs used in the West Bengal assembly election, calling the incident one that breeds suspicion.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has stirred a fresh political debate with a brief but pointed post on the social media platform X. Writing from his official handle (@yadavakhilesh), he placed the burning of machines used in the West Bengal assembly election squarely under a cloud of doubt.

What Akhilesh Yadav Wrote

In his sharply worded post, the SP chief said:

The burning of 4,000 EVM machines used in the West Bengal assembly election speaks of a tale of suspicion. The rest — the public is wise enough to understand.

In just a handful of words, he sought to suggest that 4,000 EVMs deployed in the polls catching fire together is, in itself, something that raises questions.

The Political Backdrop

The fire involving machines linked to the West Bengal assembly election had already been a talking point, but Akhilesh Yadav's remark has now given the matter a distinctly political colour. Opposition voices have raised doubts over EVMs from time to time in the past, and the SP chief's post appears to extend that very line of argument. By adding that "the public is wise enough," he left the final judgement to ordinary citizens.

Public Reaction

The post drew a mixed response online. Some users backed Akhilesh Yadav's questions, while many others criticised the remark as an attempt to blame EVMs after an electoral setback, pointing out that machinery to probe the incident is already in place.
