There is a significant announcement for the elderly residents of Punjab. The state government has widened the reach of its Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana (Chief Minister's Pilgrimage Scheme) by adding three new pilgrimage routes, so that more senior citizens can visit prominent religious destinations. The update was shared by Aam Aadmi Party through its official X account.
The Three New Routes
According to the announcement, the three newly added routes will carry the state's respected elders to these sacred sites. They are—
- Khatu Shyam Ji–Salasar Dham
- Haridwar–Rishikesh Dham
- Mathura–Vrindavan Dham
With these additions, even those elderly residents who had not yet been able to visit these places will now get the chance to undertake the pilgrimage. The party described the move as good news for the people of Punjab.
Aim of the Scheme
The Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana is intended to take the state's senior citizens to religious sites, and the expansion through new routes is part of that effort. Arrangements are being made for these upcoming journeys as well, so that travellers can be facilitated.
Public Reaction
The announcement drew a mixed response from people. While some welcomed the widening of the scheme, several users raised questions about the arrangements at events and about the government's functioning. A few took to social media with sharp, sarcastic remarks, posing pointed questions about the state's administration.
