A child and an elderly man were killed and three others injured on Sunday evening when a speeding car veered off the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and tumbled down its embankment in a rural part of Rajasthan's Kota district. The crash happened near Mehndi Minor at around 7:30 in the evening, when the vehicle suddenly lost control and went off the road.
Five People Were in the Car
There were five occupants at the time of the accident — three men, a woman and a child. The impact was so severe that the child suffered a deep head injury and died on the spot. A 70-year-old man travelling with the group was critically hurt and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Condition of the Injured
A woman in the car is reported to be in serious condition, while the remaining two passengers escaped with comparatively minor injuries. All of the injured were given medical help without delay.
Where the Occupants Were From
According to early information, the car involved in the crash was from the Indergarh area of Bundi district. Those travelling in it have been identified as Vijay Sharma, Kamlesh Dadhich, Nadesh Dadhich and Banke Bihari. The child who lost his life was journeying along with them.
How the Rescue Unfolded
As soon as word of the accident spread, police teams from the Deegod and Sultanpur stations reached the scene. Alongside them, the expressway ambulance and the Deegod ambulance crews immediately took charge of relief and rescue work. The injured were first taken to Kota Medical College, where, after initial treatment, they were admitted to a private hospital in Kota.
Expressway ambulance compounder Alok Suman confirmed the accident, saying several people had been seriously hurt and were given emergency medical care right away. According to Deegod ambulance pilot Jitendra Meena and EMT Virendra Phulwaria, all the injured were first moved to Kota Medical College and then referred to a private hospital.
A Tangle Over Jurisdiction
The crash threw up a separate complication — it could not be settled which police station's limits the accident spot actually fell within. Both the Deegod and Sultanpur stations kept describing it as a matter outside their territory. Although teams from both stations did turn up at the scene after being alerted, no formal action had been initiated by either station till late into the night. Given the death of a child and the critical condition of the injured, police are expected to begin further legal steps once the jurisdiction is clarified. The area witnessed a brief spell of chaos in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
