Plot to Derail Punjab Mail Foiled in Lucknow: 50-kg Iron Frame Placed on Track, Loco Pilot's Quick Thinking Averts Major Disaster

A 50-kg iron frame placed on the railway track near Lucknow Cant was meant to derail the Punjab Mail, but the loco pilot hit the emergency brakes in time and saved hundreds of passengers.

Hundreds of railway passengers in Lucknow narrowly escaped what could have been a deadly accident after an attempt was made to derail the Punjab Mail. A heavy iron frame weighing 50 kg was deliberately placed on the railway track in the path of the speeding train. What stopped a catastrophe was the alertness of the loco pilot, who spotted the obstruction just in time and acted without hesitation.

Where and When It Happened

The incident took place on Friday at around 2 pm. As the 13006 Punjab Mail, running from Amritsar to Howrah, approached the Dilkusha Block Hut near the Cant area, the loco pilot noticed a large iron frame lying on the track ahead. He immediately applied the emergency brakes.

Frame Struck the Engine Despite Braking

Even after the emergency brakes were applied, the train could not stop completely, and the engine collided with the 50-kg iron frame on the track. The heavy frame then got lodged underneath the engine. Thanks to the loco pilot's swift response, however, the train did not derail and the passengers remained safe.

Teams Rushed to the Spot

Soon after the incident, the loco pilot informed the station master. Railway officials and a team of the RPF reached the spot as soon as they were alerted. The frame stuck in the engine was pulled out and handed over to the RPF.

FIR Registered: Conspiracy or Mischief?

An FIR has been registered in connection with the case at the Cant police station. It is not yet clear whether placing such a heavy frame on the track was part of a planned conspiracy or merely an act of mischief, but the very fact that a 50-kg iron structure was left in the path of a moving train has raised serious questions about passenger safety. TrendKia is closely tracking every new development in the case.
