After weeks of blistering heat across Uttar Pradesh, the weather office has delivered news that is both welcome and cautionary. According to the IMD, conditions are set to shift sharply on June 14, with a spell of fierce winds and heavy downpours expected to begin. Gusts could touch 90 kilometres per hour, prompting the department to issue a high alert for several parts of the state.

Meteorologists say that on Sunday, June 14, winds blowing at 80 to 90 kilometres per hour are likely across roughly 15-plus districts of the state. Loud thunder and intense rainfall have also been forecast alongside the storms. The change is expected to pull temperatures down significantly, offering people major respite from the humidity and the heat.
Districts Under the Alert
The IMD has specifically urged residents of eastern and central Uttar Pradesh to stay cautious. The districts placed under alert include Pratapgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Basti, along with Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya and Ambedkar Nagar. The department has clarified that the warning is not limited to these districts alone — the rural and urban areas surrounding them could also witness strong winds and heavy rain.
Why Authorities Are Worried
The warning has heightened concerns for the electricity department and the local administration. When winds gather speed of 80 to 90 KM per hour, the risk of trees being uprooted, power poles toppling and kutcha houses suffering heavy damage rises sharply. Given this danger, the administration has appealed to people not to take shelter under tall trees, dilapidated buildings or electric poles during a storm, and to move instead to safe locations.

In the state capital Lucknow and its neighbouring areas, this round of storms and rain will also bring noticeable relief on June 14. On Sunday, the city's maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could settle near 28 degrees Celsius. For residents grappling with sticky, humid heat, the changing weather promises a much-needed break.
