Nissan Motor India is gearing up for the global debut of its newest midsize SUV, the Nissan Tekton, scheduled for tomorrow, July 9, 2026. This launch represents a significant strategic shift for the automaker as it looks to reclaim its standing in the Indian market following the discontinuation of the Kicks. Built upon the latest generation platform of the Renault Duster, the Tekton integrates Nissan's distinctive design philosophy, drawing heavy inspiration from the flagship Patrol SUV. Marketed internally as the Baby Patrol, the vehicle is characterized by its bold, rugged aesthetics and robust stance. The model will be manufactured at the company's Chennai plant, serving both domestic requirements and potential export markets.

Design and Exterior Aesthetics

The exterior styling of the Tekton is deeply rooted in the iconic look of the Patrol. The front profile features a dominant, large V-shaped grille accentuated by chrome slats, complemented by sleek C-shaped LED headlamps and integrated connected LED DRLs. The muscular hood contributes to its aggressive appeal, while the side profile is defined by flared wheel arches, stylish roof rails, and dual-tone alloy wheels. Notably, the C-pillar houses integrated rear door handles, which provide the SUV with a clean, two-door aesthetic. The rear end is equipped with connected LED taillights, a prominent spoiler, and a sturdy bumper. With a total length of 4345 mm and a wheelbase of 2657 mm, the vehicle offers a substantial footprint, ensuring ample ground clearance for various terrains.

Interior Cabin and Premium Features

Inside, the Tekton features a modern and highly premium cabin layout. The dashboard is finished with gloss black paneling, accented by sophisticated brass and copper detailing. The vehicle is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Convenience features expected at launch include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seating, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone air conditioning. Entertainment is provided through a high-fidelity sound system, and the vehicle features a 360-degree camera to aid parking. Practicality is a key focus, with a spacious 500-liter boot capacity designed to accommodate family needs.

Safety and Performance Capabilities

Safety is a cornerstone of the Tekton, with expectations of achieving a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, and TPMS. Furthermore, it will be equipped with Level-2 ADAS capabilities, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. Performance-wise, the vehicle will be offered with two turbo-petrol engine options: a 1.0-liter unit delivering 100 PS and 160 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 1.3-liter unit generating 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or a DCT transmission. An 1.8-liter strong hybrid variant is also expected in the future, with potential AWD options for select trims.

What this means for you
