Kia India has achieved a major production milestone at its manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, by officially commencing local assembly of its upcoming 3-row premium SUV, the Kia Sorento. The inaugural production unit has already rolled off the assembly line as the automaker gears up for an official market launch set for 4 September 2026. Pre-orders are currently open across authorized dealerships and on the brand's official web portal. Estimated ex-showroom prices are expected to range between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh, with final pricing and complete variant specifications slated for announcement on launch day.
Powertrain Options, Performance, and Hybrid Mileage
The Kia Sorento marks the automaker's entry into India's hybrid SUV space. Beneath the hood, the strong-hybrid variant pairs a 1.6-liter turbo-petrol engine with an electric setup delivering a combined global output of 238 hp and 380 Nm of torque. This powertrain comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) layout. Fuel efficiency estimates for the hybrid configuration stand between 15 KMPL and 17 KMPL. Alongside the hybrid option, Kia will also offer a diesel engine choice, expected to feature a 2.0-liter or 2.2-liter displacement producing approximately 202 hp and 441 Nm of torque. Final localized performance specifications will be confirmed during the official launch event.
Exterior Design, Styling, and Proportions
Aesthetically, the Sorento incorporates Kia's signature global design direction. Up front, it features the brand's Tiger Nose grille flanked by vertical LED headlights, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED fog lamps, and vertical aero vents. The side profile highlights dual-tone alloy wheels, satin-finish front fender trim, and a chrome window surround. The rear end is fitted with inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps and an integrated roof spoiler. In terms of physical dimensions, the SUV measures 4815 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1700 mm in height, built over a 2815 mm wheelbase.
Cabin Comfort and Generative AI Assistant
Inside, the Sorento offers a spacious dual-tone cabin equipped with twin 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. Additional interior amenities include a panoramic sunroof, ambient cabin lighting, ventilated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a digital interior rear-view mirror, and a powered tailgate. The vehicle will be offered in both 6-seat and 7-seat seating arrangements. A key tech feature is the global debut of the Kia AI Assistant powered by Live Generative AI, marking its first appearance in an Indian market vehicle to support natural voice interactions and real-time data assistance.
Safety Suite, Market Rivals, and Pricing Context
Safety equipment on the Kia Sorento includes a Level-2 ADAS suite, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera system, hill descent control, an electronic parking brake, and dual-zone climate control. Upon its commercial arrival, the Sorento will compete directly against established premium three-row SUVs in India, including the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and Jeep Meridian.
