A catastrophic flash flood triggered by a glacier breach near the Tibet border in Nepal has resulted in widespread destruction, claiming hundreds of lives as confirmed by the Nepali government. More than two thousand people remain unaccounted for, and rescue operations have been temporarily suspended due to ongoing threats in districts like Nuwakot and Rasuwa, raising concerns that the death toll could climb further.
Ankur Ratan Was in Rasuwa Just Before the Calamity
Amidst this monumental natural disaster, actor Ankur Ratan had a narrow escape. Having previously worked alongside Nagarjuna in 'Officer', the actor opened up about his harrowing experience. He revealed that barely twelve to fifteen hours before the tragedy struck, he and his family were actively capturing photographs in Rasuwa. Ankur was part of a group travelling on the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, as he and his relatives share a deep spiritual connection and a passion for trekking.
Weather Apps Showed No Warning Signs
Detailing the precautions taken during the trip, Ankur mentioned that they were consistently monitoring weather forecasts on their mobile devices. He stated that everyone was in high spirits during the journey and that just a day prior, he, his wife, and his cousin were taking pictures together. However, weather applications provided no indication whatsoever of an impending natural calamity, leaving everyone completely unaware of the sudden danger.
Khairaj Mukherjee and Manasi Parekh Stranded
The disaster has also impacted other figures from the entertainment industry who were visiting the region. Bengali actor Khairaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha have been stranded in Nepal, and their family has lost contact with them. Khairaj had travelled to the country on August 20 for a film shoot and was scheduled to return shortly. While co-star Rajatava Dutta finished his work and returned earlier, Khairaj and his wife remained stuck. National Award-winning actress Manasi Parekh was also caught in the region during her Mansarovar pilgrimage, later taking to social media to share updates and reflect on the uncertainty of life. Meanwhile, actor Anupam Kher expressed deep grief over the tragedy, stating that the sheer scale of destruction left him feeling helpless.
