The Indian cricket team's ongoing tour of New Zealand is witnessing multiple series running parallelly. While a five-match T20 series is underway between the senior teams, an unofficial Test series has also kicked off between India A and New Zealand A. This unofficial series consists of three matches, with the first encounter currently in progress. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his much-awaited return in the third and final match of this very series, where wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is also expected to join him on the field.
Third Unofficial Test Scheduled from November 7 to 10
The third and final unofficial Test match between India A and New Zealand A is scheduled to take place from November 7 to 10. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, both Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are slated to feature in this fixture. However, Pant's participation remains subject to receiving official clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's medical team. Once the medical panel gives the final green light, his inclusion in the playing XI will be fully confirmed.
Senior Test Series Against New Zealand Starts November 19
Immediately following the conclusion of these unofficial fixtures, the senior India and New Zealand teams will lock horns in a two-match Test series. The opening Test is scheduled from November 19 to 23 in Wellington, followed by the second encounter from November 27 to December 1 in Christchurch. Since this red-ball series forms a crucial part of the World Test Championship cycle, its significance is immense for both sides. Current updates indicate that Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are sweating it out at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and are very close to regaining full match fitness.
Bumrah Last Played International Cricket at the Asian Games
Jasprit Bumrah's previous international appearance came during the Asian Games, where the Indian contingent clinched the gold medal. Following that campaign, he missed the white-ball series against the West Indies. He was also left out of the ongoing T20 and upcoming ODI squads for the New Zealand tour, though his name had already been factored into the plans for the upcoming red-ball assignments. Their return through the India A fixture will provide a major boost to the national setup ahead of the demanding Test schedule.
