A triangular series is currently underway in Pakistan, featuring the host nation alongside the national teams of Sri Lanka and England. While the Pakistani side has delivered commendable performances overall, opening batsman Saim Ayub has struggled significantly with his batting form. Consequently, Saim Ayub has exited the squad mid-tournament after reportedly deciding to step aside himself. The Pakistan Cricket Board has named T20 team captain Sahibzada Farhan as his replacement, bringing him into the squad to potentially open the innings in the upcoming fixtures.
Saim Ayub Fails to Reach Double Digits in Three Matches
Entrusted with opening duties during the tri-series, Saim Ayub failed to convert his opportunities into runs. During the opening fixture against Sri Lanka, he managed to score only seven runs. In the subsequent match against England, his contributions stalled at eight runs, followed by a meager six-run outing in his third appearance. Although the lower-order batsmen frequently recovered the innings after early blows, Saim Ayub failed to cross the double-digit mark in any of his three outings. The team management also handed him the ball, but he remained wicketless during his bowling spells.
Decision Aimed at Regaining Confidence Through Domestic Cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board announced that Saim Ayub has been released from the remainder of the tournament. The board stated that the player requested the release to work on his batting mechanics and regain his lost confidence by playing domestic cricket. Respecting his decision, the management granted him the release. Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan joins the squad as his direct replacement and is expected to open the batting in upcoming games. Just days prior to this inclusion, Farhan was named the new captain of the national T20 side.
Pakistan Secures Early Berth in the Tournament Final
Dominating the group stage, Pakistan has won all three of its matches so far, accumulating six points to comfortably secure a berth in the final. Sri Lanka holds two points from two matches, while England remains winless with zero points after three fixtures. Pakistan is scheduled to play its next match against Sri Lanka on October 27. Following that fixture, Sri Lanka and England will square off on October 29. The grand finale of the tri-series is slated for October 31 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
