Representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, Musheer Khan etched his name into the record books with a stellar all-round performance against Haryana. He first anchored the innings with a brilliant century and then dismantled the opposition batting lineup by claiming six wickets, playing a pivotal role in restricting Haryana to a total of 270 runs in their first innings.
Recreating a 35-Year Milestone
Through this exceptional feat, Musheer Khan replicated a piece of history that had remained untouched for 35 years in the premier domestic tournament. He became only the sixth player in Mumbai's rich cricket history to score a hundred and pick up five or more wickets in the same Ranji Trophy fixture. Before him, the legendary Rav Shastri was the last player to accomplish this rare milestone during the 1990-91 Ranji season.
First-Innings Lead and Haryana's Struggle
Musheer wreaked havoc by securing the first five wickets of the Haryana innings. Despite the collapse, Nishant Sindhu put up a resilient fight by scoring an unbeaten 105 runs, single-handedly holding one end to provide some stability to his side. Earlier, Mumbai had posted a strong total of 430 runs in their first innings. In response, Haryana faltered and were bowled out for 270, handing the host team a substantial first-innings lead of 160 runs.
Follow-On and Match Dynamics
Aiming for a third consecutive victory alongside crucial bonus points, Mumbai enforced the follow-on against Haryana. By the end of the third day's play, Haryana had managed to score 73 runs for the loss of two wickets in their second innings. The team still trails by 87 runs with eight wickets remaining in hand. On the final day, the batters will face a tough challenge on a surface that has deteriorated significantly and become quite rough.
Injuries and Creep of Further Trouble
Haryana's woes compounded further when opening batsman Himanshu Rana was forced to retire hurt after taking a blow to his helmet from a delivery bowled by Sylvester Dujardin. Earlier in the innings, captain Ankit Kumar was dismissed by Tanush Kotian. When stumps were drawn on the third day, Sindhu was batting on 22 runs while Yashvardhan Dalal remained unbeaten on 13.
