Prolific domestic batter Sarfaraz Khan has voiced his candid frustrations regarding his prolonged wait for a national team recall. Interacting after the conclusion of the opening day in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways, the aggressive middle-order batter acknowledged the psychological toll of being repeatedly overlooked. He stated that waking up every morning brings a nagging thought about why he subjects his body and mind to such punishing physical training when opportunities with the national squad remain out of reach. Despite these recurrent doubts, he continues to wake up promptly at 5 am every single day to follow his strict preparation regime.
Drawing Resilience From His Father's Unwavering Dedication
During periods clouded by doubt and prolonged waiting, Sarfaraz finds his primary anchor in his father, Naushad Khan. Whenever exhaustion strikes and he wonders what purpose this relentless exertion serves, seeing his father working tirelessly around the clock reignites his drive. That sight instantly compels him to lace up his boots and score runs for him on the cricket pitch. Explaining his unwavering dedication to daily training, the batter pointed out that anyone wishing to meet him does not need to visit his home. Instead, visiting Azad Maidan or Cross Maidan by 6 am is enough, as he can consistently be found training hard at those grounds during dawn hours.
Perception of Being Viewed Solely as a Home-Track Specialist
Since making his Test debut in February 2024, Sarfaraz has featured in six Test matches, every single one of which took place on home soil in India. He highlighted an apparent perception within the team management that his batting skills are suited predominantly for turning or low-bounce Indian wickets. While selectors have never communicated such a condition directly to him, the patterns of team selection have led him to this belief.
To counter doubts over his adaptability, Sarfaraz highlighted his overseas stints with India A in South Africa and England, where he produced memorable centuries during red-ball practice games. He emphasized that resolving selection politics is beyond his mandate, and his only objective remains scoring runs with the bat. If the national selectors consider him worthy of representing the country again, he will gladly turn up for national duties; otherwise, he will continue amassing big scores for Mumbai across domestic tournaments.
