A 24-year quest for an elusive bilateral ODI series triumph in India ended in disappointment once again for the West Indies, following heavy setbacks across the opening fixtures of their tour. Despite the collective struggle, the visiting side discovered a major positive in their batting department. Middle-order batter Aamir Jangoo captured headlines by demonstrating remarkable poise against the hosts, registering fifty-plus scores across all three matches of the series to secure a unique milestone in international cricket.
Joining an Elite Circle of Batters in India
During the concluding fixture, the 29-year-old constructed a 56-ball 67 before departing, cementing a phenomenal run of form throughout the tour. His campaign had commenced with an unbeaten 58 in the series opener, followed by a composed century of 114 in the subsequent match. With this third consecutive milestone, Jangoo emerged as the first West Indian batter to register at least fifty runs in each of his initial three ODI innings on Indian soil. Across the globe, only four other players had previously managed this feat in India: Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden, and Jason Roy, placing the Caribbean cricketer in distinguished company.
Centurion Stand With Captain Shai Hope
Chasing an imposing target of 352 set by the Indian batting lineup in the final encounter, Jangoo walked out to bat at number three during the fifth over of the innings. Unfazed by the mounting required run rate, he combined with skipper Shai Hope to steady the ship, racing to a brisk half-century in just 47 deliveries. The duo put together a resilient 109-run partnership that guided the visiting side past the 150-run mark. The promising stand was eventually broken when Jangoo suffered an unfortunate run-out dismissal.
Rapid Rise in One-Day Internationals
Having made his ODI debut in 2024, the left-hander has enjoyed a prolific early phase in 50-over cricket. Across 12 matches and 10 innings, he has accumulated 467 runs while boasting an impressive batting average close to 58. His short international tenure already features 2 hundreds and 3 half-centuries. Prior to his three-figure mark against India, Jangoo notched an unbeaten 104 against Bangladesh in 2024, underlining his consistency and ability to adapt across diverse playing surfaces.
