Television actor Rohit Chandel has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Police following serious allegations filed by a 16-year-old minor. The girl claims that Chandel persistently harassed her by making multiple calls from different phone numbers and stalking her. The situation escalated into physical assault and verbal abuse, according to the complaints. Police investigations revealed that the two were acquainted prior to the incident. Rohit has been booked under the POCSO Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and is currently on remand as the investigation continues.
The Case of Pearl V Puri
Rohit Chandel is not the only actor in the entertainment industry to face such grave allegations. In 2021, the arrest of popular television actor Pearl V Puri sent shockwaves across the industry. He was accused of the exploitation of a five-year-old girl. Pearl consistently maintained that the allegations were completely false and baseless. Eventually, the Sessions Court granted him bail upon a cash bond of 25,000 rupees. Notably, the mother of the child had come out in public support of the actor during the legal proceedings.
Allegations Against Parth Samthaan
Television star Parth Samthaan also found himself entangled in a significant legal battle. A 20-year-old woman filed a complaint of molestation against him. The case took a serious turn when sections of the POCSO Act were added to the complaint, as the girl alleged that one of the incidents occurred when she was only 16 years old. Parth Samthaan strongly refuted all these allegations, labeling them as fabricated and entirely untrue.
Papon and the Live Show Controversy
Renowned singer Papon was once at the center of a massive controversy. In 2018, during a Facebook live stream for the show The Voice India Kids, Papon was seen applying Holi colors and kissing an 11-year-old contestant. The video sparked widespread public outrage. Consequently, the Assam Police registered an FIR against him under the POCSO Act. Although Papon maintained that he had no malicious intent, he offered an apology and stepped down from his role on the show following the backlash.
Sreejith Ravi's Incident
Malayalam cinema actor Sreejith Ravi was arrested by police in 2022. He faced serious accusations from two minor girls who claimed that he behaved in an obscene manner in front of them at a public park. Law enforcement authorities tracked down Sreejith using his vehicle's license plate number, and the children subsequently identified him. A case was registered against him under the POCSO Act. While he was initially sent to jail, the Kerala High Court later granted him bail with the specific condition that he continue receiving treatment for his behavioral disorder.
