The hit track Masakali starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor continues to remain a fan favorite long after its release. The melodious song from the movie Delhi 6 frequently appears on social media platforms through short video clips and reels. The vibrant performance by Sonam Kapoor alongside a pigeon captured the attention of audiences everywhere. However, the exact origin of the unique title has remained a point of curiosity for many.
The Revelation on Kaun Banega Crorepati
Renowned lyricist and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi recently shared an interesting anecdote regarding the track during his appearance on the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati-18 hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. In a conversation on stage, Joshi explained that the title of the song was directly inspired by the narrative of the movie and the character played by the lead actress. In the film, Sonam Kapoor portrayed a character named Bittu who kept a pet pigeon, and that bird was named Masakali.
The Inspiration Behind the Title
Joshi elaborated that while the script for Delhi 6 was still under development, the idea for the song emerged in connection with the pet bird. He remarked that the phonetic quality of the word Masakali felt so captivating that the entire creative process seemed to revolve around it. Sung by Mohit Chauhan with music composed by A.R. Rahman, the track was released in the year 2009 and quickly gained widespread popularity.
