Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi had established himself as one of the industry's brightest rising stars in the early 2000s, delivering consecutive hit movies like ‘Company’ and ‘Saathiya’. However, a fateful press conference in 2003 completely altered the trajectory of his professional and personal life. Years later, during a podcast appearance, the actor opened up about that turbulent era, describing how his existence had been reduced to a living hell while dealing with severe backlash.
Standing Up for What Was Right
Speaking on the Relernt podcast, Vivek Oberoi explained that he was simply trying to support what was right based on his upbringing and values, which taught him that certain boundaries should never be crossed and women must always be respected. He stated that he stood against things he felt were wrong, but in return, he faced brutal persecution. Despite delivering back-to-back hit films and winning awards, an extremely powerful lobby targeted him, pushing him out of the industry overnight and removing him from films he had already signed.
Work Being Snatched Away and Underworld Pressure
The actor further elaborated that the situation deteriorated progressively with each passing day. Not only was he dropped from various projects, but filmmakers who chose to stand by him also began receiving threats from the underworld. He shared that people who supported him out of basic morality would call him weeks later to report receiving calls from gangsters warning them that working with him would result in total destruction. He emphasized that he was denied work not due to any lack of talent or capability, but because of circumstances entirely beyond his control.
Navigating Career Shifts and Upcoming Projects
It is worth noting that following his early success, Vivek Oberoi's career experienced significant fluctuations. During this period, he attempted to reinvent himself by taking on dark and grey-shaded characters in movies like ‘Krrish 3’, ‘Vivegam’, and ‘Lucifer’. After appearing in ‘Kesari Veer’ and ‘Masti 4’ in 2025, he took on a role this year in Nitesh Tiwari's film ‘Ramayana Part 1’, where he portrayed Ravana's brother-in-law Vidyujivha. Looking ahead, Vivek will soon be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming film ‘Spirit’, which is scheduled to hit theaters next year.
