At the Miss World 2026 pageant featuring 111 global contestants, Indian representative Nikita Porwal made a memorable impression by showcasing an ensemble deeply rooted in spiritual heritage and high fashion. Designed by renowned designer Torani, the outfit went beyond a standard fashion showcase to present a harmonious blend of Indian mythology, South Indian cultural identity, and contemporary textile artistry on the international stage.
Spiritual Roots and the Legend of Goddess Meenakshi
Nikita's presentation drew direct inspiration from Goddess Meenakshi, the presiding deity of the revered Meenakshi Amman Temple located in Madurai, South India. Regarded in Hindu tradition as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, the name 'Meenakshi' translates literally to one with beautiful, fish-shaped eyes. Within Tamil culture, she stands as an enduring symbol of divine feminine power, grace, prosperity, and women's empowerment, themes that were central to the presentation's design language.
Translating Sacred Art into Contemporary Couture
The concept earned the descriptor 'Goddess in Colour' due to the vibrant artistic traditions associated with the deity. The vivid statues, intricate murals, and colorful festival celebrations of the Madurai temple reflect her dynamic energy, which Torani captured through a rich palette of hues. The attire featured a flowing dhoti-style silhouette, delicate embroidery, and traditional hand tapka detailing. Hand tapka is an intricate Indian handicraft technique where artisans manually create micro-dots, droplet patterns, and ornamental motifs on fabric using beads, sequins, threads, and specialized dyes, maintaining traditional authenticity alongside modern aesthetics.
Regal Accessories and Divine Makeup Styling
To complement the ensemble, custom metallic jewelry crafted by Amama Jewels was integrated into the look. Nikita wore a structured golden bustier, elaborate statement earrings, a head ornament, and sculpted body jewelry, conveying royalty, strength, and poise. The makeup was meticulously balanced to match the outfit's tones, featuring a radiant base, sharply defined facial structure, expressive eye makeup, and a soft lip shade, all aimed at bringing the divine presence and confidence of Goddess Meenakshi to life on the global runway.
