International long distance runner Seema Kumari from Himachal Pradesh has embarked on a new personal journey by getting engaged to fellow athlete Aman. The engagement ceremony was held on 19 October at a private hotel located in Sarol, within Chamba district. The Asian Games medalist shared the milestone directly with her followers on social media by posting photographs from the intimate ceremony, which quickly drew wide appreciation from sports enthusiasts and local leaders.
Athlete Partner from Mandi and a Wedding Plan Deferred to 2028
Her fiance Aman is also an active track athlete who hails from the Balh region of Sundernagar in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Both athletes share a deep dedication to competitive sport, which shaped their decision regarding marriage timelines. Rather than organizing the wedding immediately, the couple has planned to tie the knot only after competing through the 2028 Olympic Games cycle. This deliberate timeline ensures their primary focus remains entirely on rigorous training and upcoming global track championships.
Following the public announcement, Sanjeev Suri, who has played an instrumental role throughout Seema's athletic career, extended his congratulations and best wishes for the couple's new chapter. Responding to the moment, Seema described the step as a major life milestone and the start of a wonderful partnership. Chamba Member of Legislative Assembly Neeraj conveyed his felicitations to the pair, while sports enthusiasts across social platforms congratulated her and expressed hope for an Olympic podium finish in the coming years.
Overcoming Childhood Hardship to End a 16-Year Medal Drought
Seema etched her name into Indian athletics history during the 2026 Asian Games held in Japan. Competing in the gruelling women's 10,000-metre race, she clocked a remarkable time of 32:50.05 seconds to secure the third spot and claim the bronze medal. That performance brought India an Asian Games medal in that specific discipline after a gap of 16 long years, cementing her status as the celebrated running sensation from the hills of Churah.
Her athletic success stands on the back of immense personal sacrifice and resilience. Growing up in Reta village within the Churah valley, Seema faced extreme adversity after her father passed away roughly 14 years ago. Her mother single-handedly shouldered the burden of raising six siblings in difficult financial circumstances. Recognizing her raw talent, the family supported her transition to formal coaching when she was merely in the seventh grade, enabling her to join the Sports Authority of India training hostel in Dharamshala, where her journey toward elite competition truly began.
