Live: Lok Sabha passes MSME Amendment Bill 2026; Parliament adjourned for the day amid Opposition uproar against Amit Shah

Persistent slogan-shouting by Opposition members targeting Home Minister Amit Shah led to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the day. The Lower House is set to assemble next on Monday, August 10, 2026.

On Friday, the Lok Sabha gave its assent to The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Replacing the earlier legislation from 2006, this new law outlines the setup of a nationwide online platform where MSMEs can register voluntarily and without any cost. Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi explained that the measure aims to resolve liquidity bottlenecks in the sector by requiring every Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) to settle procurement payments to MSMEs via the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS).

Presiding over the proceedings, Lok Sabha Chair Dilip Saikia called upon lawmakers to table issues of public importance utilizing Rule 377.

Congress lawmaker K.C. Venugopal lodged an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha seeking a discussion on what he termed startling disclosures of financial corruption and theft involving public contributions at Ayodhya's Ram Mandir. Venugopal asserted in his submission that there is a pressing requirement to examine the alarming claims of donation theft at the shrine. He cited reports suggesting that a well-organized syndicate within the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had systematically misappropriated vast sums of cash and jewellery offered by devotees. He also pointed to a deliberate cover-up operation, stating that 7 to 8 months of critical CCTV recordings were erased and the Chief Accounts Officer who raised red flags in 2020-21 was abruptly removed, indicating high-level institutional involvement. The Congress MP categorized the ongoing probe by state authorities as an ineffective attempt to mislead the public.
