Domestic bullion markets experienced a notable surge on Monday, October 19, 2026, pushing yellow metal prices higher across major Indian cities. The sharp price movement followed a softening in international crude oil prices alongside dovish statements from US Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh, which helped ease broader inflation anxieties. Persistent geopolitical uncertainties further bolstered safe-haven buying interest. However, this sudden spike has complicated plans for households aiming to make auspicious jewellery purchases ahead of Dussehra.
Broad-Based Gains Across Purities
The upward price adjustment was evident across all standard denominations and purity tiers. For top-tier 24-carat bullion, prices advanced by Rs 3,800 per 100 grams. On smaller consumer weights, this translated into an increase of Rs 380 per 10 grams, Rs 304 per 8 grams, and Rs 38 per single gram. With this rise, 10-gram pure gold consolidated above the critical Rs 1.48 lakh benchmark in several parts of the country.
Jewellery-grade 22-carat gold witnessed an increase of Rs 3,500 per 100 grams. Retail buyers saw an additional cost of Rs 350 on every 10 grams, Rs 280 on 8-gram units, and Rs 35 per gram. The more affordable 18-carat segment followed the trend closely, rising by Rs 2,900 per 100 grams. For smaller purchases in 18-carat gold, prices advanced by Rs 290 per 10 grams, Rs 232 per 8 grams, and Rs 29 per single gram.

Macro Drivers and Market Expert Outlook
The price rally reflects a combination of commodity trends and central banking rhetoric. Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus.com, noted that gold is drawing strength from reduced energy costs because cheaper oil dampens inflation worries. In market cycles where oil shocks stoke expectations of steeper rate increases, bullion frequently faces heavy liquidation even amid acute geopolitical tension.
Subburaj cautioned that monetary policy remains the fundamental headwind facing any extended gold rally. Current market readings show an implied 92 percent probability of an interest rate increase by the US Federal Reserve in December. A morning bounce alone does not eliminate that monetary overhang. Consequently, analysts recommend that long-term investors spread their bullion allocations systematically over time rather than committing entire budgets during short-term price spikes.
