Police forces and intelligence agencies across Delhi and Uttarakhand have been placed on high alert following the receipt of a threatening email that warns of a large-scale Khalistani terror attack in the coming days. The alert identifies temples, railway stations, government institutions, and police establishments in both states as potential targets. Security agencies have responded by tightening their presence at sensitive locations and significantly ramping up surveillance across vulnerable sites.
What the Threat Email Contains
The email that triggered the current security mobilisation names specific temples as potential targets. Government offices and political leaders are also mentioned as possible targets for the planned attack. Delhi Police has taken up a thorough investigation into the email's origin and authenticity. Following the alert, Uttarakhand Police and central intelligence agencies have reinforced security at sensitive locations and significantly stepped up their monitoring of vulnerable areas to guard against any possible strike.
A History of Threat Emails in Delhi
This is not the first time Delhi's public institutions have found themselves on the receiving end of threatening emails. In the past, various establishments in the city have received messages claiming the presence of bombs inside schools or explosives aboard flights. Most of these turned out to be hoaxes and did not result in any actual incident. However, emails carrying a direct threat of a terrorist strike of this nature are considerably rarer, which is why security agencies are treating the current threat with a high degree of seriousness and exercising maximum vigilance as the investigation proceeds.
Woman Arrested in Rajasthan Over Suspected Terror Links
Separately, the anti-terrorism squad in Rajasthan detained a woman some time ago on suspicion of having ties to the Pakistani terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. The woman is originally from Gangapur city and was residing in Jaipur at the time of her arrest. She was taken into custody based on intelligence inputs that clearly indicated her contact with anti-national elements.
Investigators Uncover Connections to Pakistani Handlers
During the initial examination of the woman's mobile phone, investigators found that she was operating two SIM cards alongside a Facebook account. The Facebook account contained objectionable material along with links to foreign profiles. Several profiles on her friend list displayed flags associated with extremist organisations, propaganda content linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and other radical groups, and photographs resembling armed terrorists. Further investigation established that she had been in regular contact with multiple Pakistani and other foreign phone numbers through WhatsApp. Some Pakistani numbers identified in her contact list are suspected of having connections to terrorist organisations, and a separate inquiry into those numbers is underway.
