In a lengthy Truth Social post, Donald Trump detailed the disgraceful vandalism inflicted on the Reflecting Pool, confirming that many additional people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
A 250-Foot Gash and Toxic Chemicals Dumped In
Trump said the vandals used what appeared to be a knife or blade to carve a 250-foot-long gash into the beautiful facade of the Reflecting Pool, a structure he said required enormous work, competence, and money to build and complete. Beyond that, they also poured corrosive and destructive chemicals directly into the pool's water. Trump added that the damage does not even account for the earlier killing of a large amount of grass, which he described as the least of it compared to what followed.
Never This Beautiful Since It Opened in 1922
Trump pointed out that when the Reflecting Pool was first built in 1922, it leaked badly and never functioned properly even at opening. The recent restoration, he said, changed that entirely. For the first time in the pool's history, it worked perfectly, complete with a mirror-like finish that cleanly reflected both the George Washington and Abraham Lincoln monuments, something it had never done before. Trump called the pool's condition just one week before the attack the most beautiful it had ever been since it opened over a century ago.
An Affront to Two Great Presidents
Trump described the vandalism as a true affront to both Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and called for those responsible to be dealt with accordingly.
Contractors Consulted, Repairs Coming Quickly
Trump said his team met with contractors today to assess what needs to be done. He indicated they will probably be forced to release and drain much of the pool's water to carry out the necessary repairs, but pledged the work would be completed as fast as possible and that the pool would be returned to an equal level of beauty. Expressing pride in what has been accomplished with this magnificent structure, he closed the post signed as "President DONALD J. TRUMP."
