Streaming giant Prime Video has officially scheduled the worldwide premiere of its upcoming original crime drama Char Yaar for October 23. Produced as an eight-episode series, the show is slated to release simultaneously across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, offering a fresh narrative set against urban crime networks.
Revisiting Early 2000s Mumbai and Rising Criminal Undercurrents
The entire narrative unfolds in the early 2000s, capturing the distinct rhythm and atmosphere of Mumbai during that era. By weaving themes of brotherhood and loyalty with high-stakes underworld conflicts, the production aims to bring a layered, suspense-driven television experience to screens.
A Critical Misstep Pulls Four Ordinary Friends into Chaos
At the heart of the plot are four middle-class companions named Jai, Tony, Sahil, and Sameer. Striving to navigate everyday household duties while pursuing ambitious personal aspirations in the bustling metropolis, the young men encounter harsh circumstances. In an attempt to overcome immediate hardship, they make a solitary reckless decision that instantly embroils them in gang rivalries, criminal enterprises, and intense police manhunts. As their survival instincts kick in, their desperate journey to escape the underground web turns increasingly perilous, testing their mutual bond at every turn.
Promising Fresh Talents Backed by Renowned Screen Veterans
Leading the ensemble cast are young performers Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub, and Prayak Mehta, who portray the four protagonists. They are flanked by an experienced roster of seasoned actors, featuring Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Tailang, Sikandar Kher, Sai Tamhankar, Chunky Panday, and Bhagavathi Perumal in pivotal roles.
Creative Direction and Storytelling Team
The eight-part saga is directed by Vinay Waikul, with the writing led by Sambit Mishra and Saurabh Sawant. Celebrated author and crime reporter S Hussain Zaidi is also an integral member of the show's creator lineup.
