Political friction has intensified across Uttar Pradesh as the state gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, with voter list discrepancies taking center stage in the political discourse. Following statements from other party leaders, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav has launched a sharp attack on the functioning of the Election Commission. Interacting with reporters in Mainpuri, she stated that recent media reports regarding irregularities and objections raised by two election commissioners during the special intensive revision process have vindicated the allegations her party has been making for years.
Revisiting past electoral grievances
Addressing mediapersons in Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav recalled the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to question the credibility of the election machinery. She emphasized that the Samajwadi Party had maintained from the very beginning that large-scale manipulation of electoral rolls was taking place and that votes belonging to party supporters were being deliberately deleted. According to her, recent disclosures concerning the internal objections within the election body have brought those long-standing concerns into the spotlight.
The unanswered affidavits issue
Detailing past interactions with the election authorities, Yadav pointed out that during the 2022 electoral cycle, the commission had issued a notice to party national president Akhilesh Yadav directing them to submit supporting affidavits. In compliance, the party compiled and submitted affidavits from approximately 4,000 voters. However, she noted that the commission never followed up with any formal response or acknowledgment through email or other communication channels, leaving the party's grievances unaddressed.
Demanding accountability from officials
Emphasizing the seriousness of the flaws identified during the revision process, the opposition MP asserted that accountability must be fixed at the highest levels. She demanded that strict disciplinary and legal action be taken against the Chief Election Commissioner, the entire election team, and the administrative officials who executed the process. In her view, anyone found undermining the integrity of the democratic framework must face the severest possible consequences.

With preparations for the 2027 assembly polls already underway, the electoral roll dispute has provided the Samajwadi Party with a potent political weapon to challenge both the ruling dispensation and the election oversight body.
