Born in Toran Dongri, a small remote village near Nashik in Maharashtra, Dilip belonged to an impoverished farming family. From a very young age, he regularly assisted his parents with manual labor in the agricultural fields.
At the age of five, Dilip suffered a severe injury after falling from a tree in his village. The lack of basic healthcare infrastructure in the rural area delayed medical attention. With proper treatment unavailable at the critical time, the injury deteriorated, forcing doctors to amputate his arm. Despite losing an arm during early childhood, Dilip maintained extraordinary courage and refused to let the physical disability restrict his ambitions.
Talent Spotting by School Coach and Entry into Para Sports
Pursuing an athletics career was fraught with obstacles due to the absence of proper sports facilities in his village. However, his natural athletic talent was spotted during his school days by sports coach Vaijayanth Kale. Recognizing his innate speed and potential, Coach Kale approached Dilip's parents and persuaded them to permit formal athletic training for their son.
Initially, Dilip had no awareness of organized para athletics. He regularly competed in open sprint events alongside able-bodied athletes, frequently outrunning them. Under the structured mentorship of Coach Vaijayanth Kale, Dilip transitioned into specialized para sports, paving his path to international podiums.
