An official consensus has emerged between the Punjab administration and the Insaaf Committee to resolve the standoff surrounding the murder of Parwinder Singh Jhota in Mansa. Key administrative assurances granted during high-level deliberations have cleared the path for the deceased activist's post-mortem examination and subsequent cremation rites, which will now formally take place on November 6.
Financial Relief and Employment Packages Approved
Under the terms of the settlement, the state government has agreed to allocate a compensation amount of Rs 2 crore to the family of Parwinder Singh Jhota. Additionally, his wife will receive a government job suited to her educational credentials. The agreement also extends financial relief to the family of Daljeet Singh from village Bhamme Kalan, ensuring his wife secures employment at the Mansa Deputy Commissioner (DC) office alongside an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50 lakh.
Withdrawal of FIRs and Release of Detained Leaders
The authorities have consented to quash all legal cases filed against Parwinder Singh Jhota's father and members associated with the Anti-Drug Task Team. In a wider relief measure, multiple FIRs registered across Punjab concerning the tearing down of flex boards during the agitation will also be canceled. Furthermore, leaders Lakha Sidhana and Mohanjeet Sheron will be released from custody prior to the start of the autopsy proceedings.
Memorial Construction, Trauma Centre, and Protest De-escalation
To commemorate Jhota, a statue will be erected in Mansa, complemented by a dedicated trauma center in village Khyala bearing his name, with formal regulatory sanctions scheduled to be delivered promptly. For the young protestor who lost his life during demonstrations in Ludhiana, authorities have earmarked Rs 20 lakh in compensation for the surviving relatives. With the state capitulating to these core demands, the committee has officially called off its scheduled demonstration to gherao the Chief Minister's Sangrur residence on November 5.
