In a significant leadership transition for the armed forces, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the new Chief of the Air Staff. Bringing nearly four decades of distinguished service and an extensive record of more than 3500 flying hours, the veteran aviator takes charge of securing Indian airspace and directing the overall strategic operations of the Indian Air Force.
From National Defence Academy to the Top Command
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Dixit was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in 1986. Over his decorated career, he actively participated in key military operations, including Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil conflict, as well as Operation Sindoor. His operational background across challenging operational environments paved the way for his elevation to head the air branch.
Focus on Indigenous Fighter Fleets and Modernisation
The newly appointed chief brings deep operational familiarity with frontline aircraft ranging from the Mirage-2000 to the home-grown light combat aircraft, Tejas. His appointment is expected to provide decisive momentum to domestic defence manufacturing initiatives under self-reliance goals. With four decades of hands-on aviation experience, his leadership will be pivotal in accelerating indigenous jet development programmes and upgrading aerospace combat capabilities.
