Indian opener Abhishek Sharma secured a major personal milestone during the second encounter of the five-match T20 international series against West Indies. Taking the field to bat first in Ranchi after losing the toss, all eyes were set on the dynamic left-hander. Although his stay at the crease was cut short at 20 runs, that contribution was enough to take his aggregate past the four-figure mark in matches played on home soil. With this, he became only the seventh Indian cricketer in history to register 1,000 T20I runs inside the country.
Reaching the Thousand-Run Mark in Just 29 Matches
Since breaking into the national setup, Abhishek Sharma has established himself at the top of the batting order with impactful and aggressive displays across conditions. While closing in on the overall career benchmark of 2,000 T20I runs, his home record stands out for its brisk efficiency. Across just 29 T20Is on Indian soil, he has amassed 1,010 runs at a healthy average of 36.07. His home tally features 2 centuries along with 6 half-centuries, underlining his knack for converting starts into substantive match totals.
Top Indian Run-Getters in Home T20 Internationals
The leaderboard for the highest T20I run aggregate in India continues to be headed by Virat Kohli, who compiled 1,577 runs in 46 games at an average of 50.87. Rohit Sharma sits right behind him with 1,532 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav holds third place with 1,530 runs. Further down the list are Ishan Kishan with 1,246 runs, Hardik Pandya with 1,212 runs, and KL Rahul with 1,018 runs. Abhishek Sharma now completes this seven-man contingent with his tally of 1,010 runs.
Surpassing Paul Stirling for Most First-Over Sixes
Apart from entering the 1,000-run club, Abhishek also claimed the top spot in a distinct power-hitting metric in T20 international cricket. Among batters representing full member nations, he now holds the outright record for the most sixes hit in the opening over of a T20I innings. By striking his 14th maximum in the first over, he overtook Ireland opener Paul Stirling, who previously led the chart with 13 opening-over sixes.
