Meta has rolled out a brand-new feature called Spaces, designed to give users a fresh way to communicate and collaborate with their Muse AI agents. This comes shortly after the company introduced its new generation of cuddly agentic helpers, known as Muse agents, to the public.
How Spaces Work
Essentially operating as breakout conversations revolving around particular topics, Meta refers to these additions as custom experiences. They reside right within the sidebar of the interface where users normally interact with their Muse agent. Clicking on a specific Space brings up a dedicated conversation window where the agent actively works toward a designated goal on the user's behalf. For example, planning a vacation or gathering recipes for a family gathering can each take place inside their own isolated project tabs.
Project Management and Organization
Other practical examples highlighted by the company include a holiday gift tracker, a wedding planner, or a dedicated workspace for DIY projects. Users can simply describe an idea directly in the chat, and Muse will automatically build a tailored space, whether it functions as a tracker, a planner, or a comprehensive project board.
Integration With Third-Party Apps
Furthermore, these spaces feature built-in compatibility with external applications and data sources. By connecting preferred apps, the spaces maintain themselves automatically in the background. This ensures that new concert dates, price changes, or savings progress appear seamlessly without requiring manual prompts from the user.
Mark Zuckerberg's Endorsement
Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to X to share his personal experience with the new functionality, stating that he built a BBQ game, an event tracker, and a home control dashboard simply by telling the agent what he needed.
Rapid Adoption and Recent Updates
The cute, avatar-encased Muse agents have enjoyed a warm reception since their debut. During an earnings call, it was revealed that the agents had already reached 10 million users across the U.S. and Canada within two months of launch. Spaces marks the second major Muse feature released in a single week, following the rollout of Muse Voice, which enables users to engage in video chats and give verbal commands to their agents.
Competitive Landscape
Meta continues to innovate in a crowded market filled with cartoonish AI companions, competing directly against OpenAI's dots and Grokbot, both of which debuted with similarly playful and animated personas.
