Finding something enjoyable to watch on Netflix is getting an artificial intelligence overhaul designed to replace endless catalog browsing. The company announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out an experimental AI Discover tab, giving subscribers an interactive way to land on their next title. The initial feature under this new hub focuses on delivering recommendations aligned directly with what viewers feel like watching at any given moment.
Curated Themes Matching Viewing Time and Temperament
Instead of manually combing through rows of thumbnails, subscribers can explore curated themes that incorporate video clips from movies and television shows. These options adapt to immediate viewer preferences, current moods, trending titles, or the exact amount of time someone has to spare. Available options include categories such as "something light," "scare me," "family movie night," and "quick watches." This setup ensures that someone looking for a short diversion gets tailored recommendations just as effectively as a household settling in for a full movie evening.
An Evolving Real-Time Intelligence Layer
Netflix explained that AI Discover runs on an advanced intelligence layer built to process direct viewer inputs in real time while continuously learning from interactions. Once a viewer selects a specific theme, matching recommendations immediately populate the screen. Users can then drill down into even more precise sub-themes until they pinpoint an appealing title, or hit "something different" to wipe the slate clean and start browsing anew.
To give viewers granular control over future suggestions, every individual title within this interface displays a "Tune Your Recommendations" button right alongside the standard "Play" and "My List" options. Viewers can utilize this control to bookmark suggested titles they appreciate or permanently banish entries they never want to see suggested again.
A Test Kitchen for Future Streaming Features
In an official blog post detailing the rollout, Netflix framed AI Discover as an experimental test kitchen where developers can prototype and test fresh discovery formats. Feedback gathered from active viewers during this testing phase will directly determine which experimental tools get refined or eventually integrated into the primary platform interface.
Availability on Supported Televisions
The rollout is commencing in the United States for subscribers who access Netflix in English across supported connected televisions. The company plans to expand access to additional users over the coming weeks. Eligible viewers can access the tool by looking for a "Discover" button featuring a red gem icon and a "New" badge located in the top navigation bar of their TV interface.
