India has mounted a scathing counterattack against Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly following remarks delivered by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Exercising the Right of Reply, India's First Secretary Petal Gahlot laid bare the persistent hypocrisy and double standards in Islamabad's official rhetoric. Addressing the assembly, she firmly noted that merely reiterating a falsehood time and again cannot transform it into reality.
Global Terror and the Abbottabad Connection
Highlighting Pakistan's documented history of patronizing violent extremism, the Indian diplomat reminded the international gathering of where the world's most wanted terrorist was finally tracked down. She pointed out that Osama bin Laden, the principal mastermind behind the devastating September 11 terror attacks, was discovered living comfortably within Pakistani borders in the military garrison city of Abbottabad. New Delhi stressed that Islamabad must immediately halt its backing of terrorism and dismantle the operational networks functioning from its sovereign territory.
Sovereignty and the Self-Defence Mandate
Responding to Pakistani rhetoric on the region, Gahlot reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is, and will irrevocably remain, an integral and indivisible territory of India. She turned the spotlight onto the plight and human rights conditions of the local population residing within Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The diplomat affirmed that should Islamabad continue its policy of fueling cross-border violence, India retains every right to defend its territory and citizens. Deception, terror, and institutional duplicity, she maintained, serve neither regional stability nor Pakistan's own progress.
