Filmmaker Kuku Kohli, known for directing the hit film Phool Aur Kaante, passed away at the age of 77 on August 25, 2026, at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Following his demise, his family organized a prayer meet on Saturday, August 29, at the Celebration Sports Club in Andheri West, Mumbai. A large number of Bollywood personalities and industry colleagues arrived at the venue to pay their respects to the departed filmmaker and express solidarity with his grieving family. Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif Pay Tributes
The late director's wife and veteran actress Aruna Irani attended the memorial service alongside other family members who supported her upon entry. Amidst the somber atmosphere, popular Bollywood celebrity couple Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif arrived together to offer their condolences. After meeting the family and paying their respects, the couple was spotted exiting the venue together. They were accompanied by Vicky's father and veteran stunt director Sham Kaushal. As paparazzi swarmed around them outside, Sham guided them safely toward their car, and Vicky was later seen touching his father's feet before departing.

The prayer meet saw the attendance of numerous prominent film industry figures, including veteran actresses Asha Parekh, Madhoo, and Poonam Dhillon. Actors Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, and Ketaki Dave were also present. Ketaki Dave attended the gathering alongside her mother, veteran actress Sarita Joshi. Kuku Kohli made his directorial debut with Phool Aur Kaante, a commercial success that also marked the acting debut of Ajay Devgn. The movie featured Madhoo, Amrish Puri, Aruna Irani, and Jagdeep in significant roles. Over his career, he directed several notable films including Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Woh Tera Naam Tha, Anari No. 1, and Yeh Dil Aashikana. He is survived by his wife Aruna Irani and two daughters, Pooja and Karishma, from his first wife Rita Kohli.
