A major historical feature film project centered on a sensitive and rarely explored chapter of India's freedom struggle has officially been launched. Prominent filmmaker Anubhav Sinha and acclaimed director Sudhir Mishra have joined hands to bring this crucial historical narrative to the big screen. Three-time National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee has been cast in the lead role, portraying Mahatma Gandhi on screen for the very first time in his career. Renowned actor Saurabh Shukla will also feature alongside Bajpayee in a pivotal role within this period drama.
The Unexplored 21 Days of Mahatma Gandhi's Life
The core narrative of the film revolves around real events from the Indian independence era, specifically highlighting 21 pivotal days in Mahatma Gandhi's life that receive limited detail in conventional history books. Director Sudhir Mishra explained that as the nation approached complete independence and Delhi emerged as the primary seat of political power, Gandhi took an entirely unexpected step. He chose to distance himself from the corridors of authority during that crucial transition phase.
According to Sudhir Mishra, Gandhi's decision to step away from political centers was not a withdrawal or a retreat. Instead, it represented a profound internal human transformation and self-re-evaluation. While standard history texts primarily document the macro events of that timeline, this cinematic project aims to delve deep into the underlying motivations, personal reflections, and internal deliberations behind Gandhi's historic decision.
Manoj Bajpayee and Saurabh Shukla in Lead Portrayals
Known for his intense and nuanced performances, Manoj Bajpayee views this assignment as a milestone role. As he steps into the persona of Bapu for the first time, Bajpayee will portray a highly humanized, introspective, and sensitive side of the historic leader. Complementing his effort, veteran actor Saurabh Shukla brings substantial weight to the narrative through his key character role.
