Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is all set to appear on the silver screen in the divine avatar of Lord Rama. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra alongside Kannada star Yash, the highly anticipated film Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to hit theatres on November 5 on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. The creators have successfully generated immense excitement among audiences, prompting advance bookings to kick off on Dussehra, exactly 14 days prior to the official premiere. Looking at these initial numbers, it strongly appears that Lord Rama's blessings are going to shower upon Ranbir Kapoor at the box office.
Grand Scale Promotion and International Reach
The makers have devised a massive strategy to release this epic saga on a grand scale, promoting it just as aggressively overseas as they have done domestically. Nitesh Tiwari's entire team has poured relentless effort into marketing and promotional activities. Demonstrating strong local support, the government in West Bengal has declared the film tax-free, making it significantly easier for local cinephiles to watch it in theatres.
Pre-Release Advance Booking Crosses Crores
According to box-office tracking website Sacnilk, Ramayana surpassed the 7 crore rupee milestone in pre-release collections by 6:00 AM on October 22. A total of 1.25 lakh tickets have already been snapped up by eager fans. When blocking seats are excluded, the net revenue stands at 5.12 crore rupees. These ticket sales currently account for 3,707 shows across the length and breadth of the country. Based on the 1.25 lakh tickets sold, the Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer has amassed a gross collection of 7.04 crore rupees in pre-sales, recording an occupancy rate of 15 percent. Industry reports suggest that the feature film could very well secure a grand opening on Diwali day.
Hindi Belt Dominance and Multiple Formats
The advance booking momentum has yielded the highest dividends in the Hindi-speaking market. Out of the total 7 crore rupees, roughly 6.48 crore rupees—amounting to a staggering 92 percent—originated from Hindi-speaking audiences. Meanwhile, Kannada collections stood at 40.95 lakh rupees, and Telugu contributions added 15.88 lakh rupees. Among top-performing regions, Maharashtra led the charts with a 27 percent share, reflecting immense enthusiasm for the Nitesh Tiwari directorial. It was followed closely by Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, and other states. To offer a breathtaking viewing experience, Ramayana will be released across a multitude of formats including 3D, IMAX3D, DOLBY CINE, 4DC 3D, 2D, HDR By BAR, 3D screens, and EPIQ 3D.

The cinematic venture boasts an extensive roster of prominent stars portraying iconic mythological characters. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Mata Sita, Yash takes on the role of Ravana, and Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman. Additionally, Ravi Dubey features as Lakshmana, Arun Govil appears as King Dasharatha, and Lara Dutta essays the role of Queen Kaikeyi. The sprawling cast further includes Vivek Oberoi as Vidyunjihva, Kunal Kapoor as Indra, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthra, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Indira Krishnan as Kausalya, and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha. Veteran actor Anupam Kher will lend his voice to the character of Jatayu.
Historical Box Office Trends of Diwali Releases
Looking back at past festive seasons, Indian cinema has witnessed numerous major releases arriving on Diwali, universally acknowledged as the biggest commercial festival for the box office. However, historical track records reveal mixed fortunes; while some festive releases achieved blockbuster status, others faltered completely. For instance, Thugs of Hindostan debuted during Diwali but turned out to be a massive disaster. Conversely, crowd-pleasers like Golmaal Again, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Happy New Year, Krrish 3, and Jab Tak Hai Jaan all launched during Diwali and emerged as resounding blockbusters.
