The excitement surrounding the upcoming cinematic adaptation of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, continues to build among audiences. Being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the makers have now finalized major plans for the film's digital journey after its theatrical run. Once the theatrical screening concludes, fans will have the opportunity to stream the movie from the comfort of their homes.
How to Watch on OTT
According to reports, a significant partnership has been established between Prime Focus Studios and JioHotstar, ensuring that the film arrives on the streaming platform following its release in theaters. However, viewers will need to follow a distinct method to access it. The title will not be included in standard subscription plans; instead, users will need to utilize a pay-per-view option and make a separate payment to unlock it, allowing audiences to enjoy the epic on-demand at home.
Vision Behind the Digital Launch
Sharing her thoughts on this collaboration, JioStar Chairperson Nita Ambani noted that Ramayana is the greatest treasure of our culture and has guided generations for centuries. She added that JioHotstar aims to bring the finest stories of India to every household through technology, calling it a matter of pride to take this grand-vision project to families and the younger generation across the nation.
Producer Explains the Streaming Strategy
Producer Namit Malhotra explained the rationale behind bringing the digital release to a streaming partner, stating that while he wants audiences to experience the film on the massive IMAX 3D screens, large theatres are not accessible everywhere in the country. Because Ramayana belongs to every Indian, its reach must extend to every home. Having previously united the nation through sports and entertainment, JioHotstar was chosen as the ideal partner to bridge the gap from theaters to living rooms.
Release Date and Production Details
Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, coinciding with the festival of Diwali. The film will be presented globally in grand IMAX 3D formats, with makers urging audiences to witness the cinematic grandeur in theaters first before viewing it on home streaming services. This live-action film series is planned in two parts, helmed by director Nitesh Tiwari. The story has been adapted by Sudeep Raghavan from the Valmiki Ramayana. The project is a joint production between Prime Focus Studios, the eight-time Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG, and actor Yash's Monster Mind Creations, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.
