Marking a rare cinematic milestone of completing 50 years within the Indian film industry, veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai has revealed the first promotional poster for his upcoming feature film titled 'Maanya'. The newly unveiled artwork puts actor Shreyas Talpade front and centre, leading the dramatic narrative. Released on October 24, the announcement coincided with the 48th anniversary celebration of Ghai's renowned production banner, Mukta Arts. This venture brings Ghai and Talpade back into creative partnership after nearly two decades, their last memorable collaboration being the widely acclaimed 2005 sports drama 'Iqbal', which had established the actor's career in mainstream Hindi cinema.
Humanising Circumstance Under Sameer Joshi's Direction
Helmed by director Sameer Joshi, 'Maanya' focuses on the lived reality and trials of an adolescent boy. Instead of presenting a conventional narrative centred strictly on illicit activities or crime, the storyline shifts focus toward the emotional truths and circumstances steering the young protagonist's journey. Alongside Talpade, the ensemble cast features performances from Samvedna Suwalka, Divya Sharma, Priyadarshini Pooja, and Zoaib Farooqui in key roles. On the production front, the project is backed by Mukta Arts in collaboration with Slow Burn Entertainment, with Puneet Aggarwal and Rahul Puri serving as producers.
Reuniting on Screen and Embracing Fresh Talent
Reflecting on this milestone for Mukta Arts and his reunion with the lead actor, Ghai highlighted that this phase represents an intentional pivot toward meaningful, engaging storytelling. Speaking about the working dynamic, Ghai noted that collaborating with Talpade after so many years was a great experience that highlighted the actor's range and ability. The veteran producer also noted that the inclusion of emerging performers brings strong dimension and authenticity to the ensemble, expressing keen anticipation for audiences to experience the narrative perspective crafted for the film.
Pipeline Ahead and a Forward-Looking Philosophy
Beyond the development of 'Maanya', Ghai remains actively engaged with high-profile cinematic ventures. His slate includes working on 'Khalnayak Returns' alongside Sanjay Dutt, in addition to developing an upcoming courtroom drama featuring Anil Kapoor.
Addressing his personal habits regarding his own filmography during an earlier appearance on Arbaaz Khan's podcast, Ghai explained why he avoids rewatching his celebrated classic releases once their theatrical run or premieres conclude. Preferring not to linger on past accolades or nostalgia, the director stated that his true creative enjoyment comes from focusing entirely on his current output in the present moment. Rather than dwelling on previous triumphs, his priority remains applying all his creative energy to elevate the project currently in front of him.
