Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal recently completed two years of marriage. The couple married on June 23, 2024, and ever since, one particular painting inside their home has drawn attention, an artwork that brings together the Gayatri Mantra and the Kalma. The actress shared a glimpse of this artwork on social media, calling it the most special gift she received after her wedding, and also recounted one of the most emotional moments from her wedding day.
When the azaan reached their wedding as the mantra was being chanted
In her post, Sonakshi wrote that while her wedding was underway, a pandit was chanting the Gayatri Mantra on one side, and at that very moment, the sound of the azaan reached their home from the other side. According to the actress, the strength of both these prayers coming together is what has made their home so happy today. That is why the painting depicting the Gayatri Mantra and the Kalma side by side is not just a picture for her, but a living memory of that moment. Sonakshi shared this on Instagram along with a long, heartfelt message.
A call during their Australia vacation set it all in motion
Sonakshi recalled that one day while she and Zaheer were on vacation in Australia, she suddenly received a call from Shubhika Sharma. Shubhika told them she wanted to gift them a painting for their wedding. When Shubhika explained what she actually wanted to gift them, it felt to Sonakshi as though the idea had come straight from their own hearts. Shubhika wanted the painting to show how the couple's thinking had come together, and how that union had turned into a blend of love and positivity.
Artist Adil Abedi captured their thoughts and emotions on canvas
Shubhika then introduced Sonakshi and Zaheer to the artist Adil Abedi. Sonakshi described Adil as immensely talented, writing that he came to their home, understood their thoughts and emotions, and then beautifully translated that same feeling onto canvas. The actress called it nothing short of a divine coincidence that Adil reached out to her while she and Zaheer were in LA, even though Adil had no idea they were there at the time. It was during this period that Adil informed them the painting was ready.
Sonakshi wrote that this beautiful artwork, showing the coming together of the Gayatri Mantra and the Kalma, has carved out its own special place in their home ever since it arrived. She said she is confident the painting will bring even more happiness, love and peace to their household in the days ahead. In her words, the home now feels far more complete and full of blessings than before.
The interfaith couple that faced trolling before finding happiness
Coming to their wedding itself, Sonakshi and Zaheer tied the knot on June 23, 2024. Before that, the two dated for a long time but kept their relationship away from public eyes until the very end. Sonakshi comes from a Hindu family and Zaheer from a Muslim family, and this was the reason the couple faced heavy trolling on social media once news of their wedding broke, with the actress in particular being targeted. Despite this, Sonakshi and Zaheer chose to ignore all the negativity and got married in the presence of their family and close friends.
Today, the couple is enjoying a happy married life, and this painting bringing together the Gayatri Mantra and the Kalma has become a living symbol of their journey, their love for each other, and the coming together of two different faiths. Sonakshi made clear in her post that this artwork is not merely home decor, it represents the entire spirit of their marriage.
