Bihar is gearing up for a massive transformation of its infrastructure as the state moves forward with an ambitious connectivity project. During a closing ceremony at a job fair in Patna, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced plans to construct a 126-kilometer-long marine drive along the banks of the Ganga River. This extensive project is estimated to cost around Rs 70,000 crore, aiming to significantly strengthen the state's transport network and create abundant employment opportunities for local residents.
Koilwar To Serve As The Starting Point
Outlining the details of the upcoming infrastructure initiative, the Chief Minister explained that the new marine drive will originate at Koilwar on the Son River and stretch for approximately 126 kilometers alongside the Ganga. This extensive corridor is expected to drastically improve regional road connectivity while simultaneously driving development across multiple districts situated along the riverbanks.
Public And Private Sector Investment Breakdown
While addressing the gathering at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, the Chief Minister detailed the funding structure behind this multi-billion-rupee undertaking. Out of the total estimated expenditure of Rs 70,000 crore, Rs 20,000 crore will be directly contributed by the Bihar government. Meanwhile, the remaining bulk of about Rs 50,000 crore is anticipated to come through robust investments from the private sector.
Expanding On The Existing Patna Model
The state already has a successful precedent for this type of coastal infrastructure. The current marine drive in Patna spans a length of about 21 kilometers. The Chief Minister noted that the initial project was initiated by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar back in 2013 and was completed in 2025 at a cost of roughly Rs 6,000 crore. Building upon the success of that earlier venture, the administration is now scaling up the concept exponentially with the new 126-kilometer expansion.
New Avenues For Economic Growth And Employment
Beyond merely improving transportation and reducing travel times, the administration emphasizes that the overarching goal of this project is economic empowerment. With massive private investments flowing into the region, new facilities, commercial hubs, and diverse economic activities are expected to sprout up, paving the way for sustained job creation across the state.
