Visitors traveling to Gujarat to see the iconic Statue of Unity will now experience upgraded lodging, leisure, and sightseeing amenities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2026 inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 400 crore in Ekta Nagar. The newly introduced works focus on expanding hospitality and civic infrastructure, featuring a 127-room IRCTC hotel, a rainforest zone, unity and eco trails, an upgraded Narmada ghat, and dedicated water and sewage treatment facilities.
Modern Hospitality Complex Near the Railway Station
Positioned close to the Ekta Nagar railway station, IRCTC has established a modern 127-room hotel constructed at an expenditure of approximately Rs 52.50 crore. Spanning an area of nearly two acres, the property offers guest accommodations across four distinct categories. The premises are equipped with an on-site restaurant, cafeteria, banquet hall, dedicated conference rooms, and a swimming pool. Its direct proximity to the station enables train passengers to check in seamlessly without navigating lengthy local commutes after arrival.
With cumulative tourist arrivals at the Statue of Unity crossing the milestone of 3 crore visitors, the launch of this hospitality facility addresses the growing demand for quality overnight stays. Tourism stakeholders anticipate that improved accommodation will encourage visitors to extend their trips, stay overnight in Ekta Nagar, and explore adjacent recreational points.
Rainforest Attractions, Walking Trails, and Narmada Ghat Beautification
To diversify leisure options, new experiential projects including a rainforest zone, unity trails, and eco-trails have been officially initiated. Alongside these, the enhancement of the Narmada ghat and the addition of artistic facade lighting across key installations aim to enrich the visual appeal of the riverside landscape during evening hours. In parallel, advanced water and sewage treatment plants have been operationalized to strengthen civic sanitation, conserve local water bodies, and maintain clean surroundings across the tourism hub.
Foundations Laid for Road Connectivity and Ecological Projects
In addition to completed projects, the foundation stone was laid for several civic and environmental programs. These include the development of the Gora-Bhadra road corridor, an integrated zero waste smart solid waste management system, and the Khalwani eco-tourism development initiative. Plans have also been finalized for the comprehensive expansion of both the cactus and butterfly gardens, catering to nature enthusiasts and educational groups.
Economic Momentum for Local Vendors and Transport Operators
The expansion of civic and tourist infrastructure is expected to accelerate commercial activity throughout the Ekta Nagar vicinity. The day-to-day operation of the hotel and specialized tourism spots creates fresh employment avenues across hospitality, maintenance, and facility management. Simultaneously, higher visitor footfalls and extended stays provide sustained patronage for local taxi drivers, neighborhood shops, handicraft artisans, and regional food vendors.
