Fish farming is witnessing a significant expansion in Jehanabad, with the number of people involved in the trade growing consistently every season. Several regions within the district have turned into hotspots for aquaculture, with villages like Bharthu, Bhagwanganj, and Nandana featuring a landscape dotted with numerous fishing ponds. Recognizing this growing interest among local farmers, the government has stepped up efforts to support them through various initiatives aimed at strengthening the rural economy.
Understanding the Special Pond Fisheries Assistance Scheme
The Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has introduced the 'Talab Matsyiki Vishesh Sahayata Yojana' for the 2026-27 period. This scheme is specifically designed to provide financial aid to marginalized sections, including farmers from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes. Selected beneficiaries under this program are entitled to a 70 percent subsidy. For this current year, 6 individuals have been selected for the benefits in the district, comprising 3 beneficiaries from the Scheduled Caste category and 3 from the Extremely Backward Class category.
Financial Coverage and Project Components
According to updates from the District Fisheries Office, beneficiaries under this plan are required to construct a pond on 40 decimals of land. The total cost for this project is estimated at 5.72 lakh rupees. Of this total, the government provides a 70 percent grant, which amounts to a maximum benefit of 4.04 lakh rupees. This funding is intended to cover essential expenses including pond excavation, the installation of boring pump sets, the procurement of aerator machines, the construction of sheds, and the purchase of other inputs crucial for successful fish cultivation.
How to Apply and Where to Seek Guidance
Farmers interested in availing the benefits of the Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme must submit their applications through the official website of the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department. If an applicant faces any issues regarding the online process, they are encouraged to visit the District Fisheries Office during standard working hours to receive assistance. It is essential to ensure that the formal application is completed to become eligible for the subsidy.
The government believes that by diversifying into aquaculture alongside traditional farming, cultivators can significantly improve their household earnings. Over the past few years, the remarkable growth in fish farming across the district has demonstrated the viability and success of this model in driving rural economic development.
