Odisha is undergoing a fundamental economic transition, pivoting away from its legacy reliance on mining and mineral extraction to emerge as a powerhouse for next-generation digital technology. A key state-level meeting convened under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has formally approved proposals worth Rs 2.47 lakh crore across cutting-edge industrial sectors. The centerpiece of this industrial expansion is the rapid rollout of artificial intelligence hubs, advanced cloud computing centers, and high-capacity digital infrastructure across multiple districts.
Spreading 27 Projects Across 15 Districts for 50,000 Jobs
Official data released by the state administration indicates that the cumulative investment of Rs 2.47 lakh crore will generate upwards of 50,000 employment opportunities. To ensure balanced regional development rather than concentrating progress in urban pockets, the 27 approved initiatives will be distributed across 15 separate districts. Digital technology dominates the financial outlay, with approximately Rs 1.4 lakh crore specifically ring-fenced for artificial intelligence infrastructure and data center construction, signalling a sharp modernization of the state's commercial landscape.
Adani Group Backs Milestone Tech Infrastructure
The largest commitment in this modernization wave comes from High Density Data Center Limited, a subsidiary of the Adani Group. The enterprise is set to establish an integrated data center park with an estimated capital injection of Rs 1.04 lakh crore. Standing as the largest single infrastructure undertaking in the state's commercial record, this development alone is projected to open up roughly 10,000 jobs during its execution and operational phases.
HCL and SentraForge Spearhead Tech Expansion
Global tech firm HCL is also committing substantial capital, planning an AI-optimized data facility in Khordha district with an expenditure of Rs 14,257 crore, which is expected to yield around 400 specialist roles. Concurrently, SentraForge AI Ltd has finalized preparations to establish an advanced AI data center alongside a dedicated Global Capability Center in Puri. That twin initiative entails a capital commitment of Rs 22,634 crore and is forecast to generate 2,320 technical jobs. Further complementing the network, RKD Construction Private Limited will inject Rs 1,500 crore into building a data center in Cuttack, solidifying the greater Bhubaneswar corridor as a premier destination for corporate technology expansion.
