State government employees in Punjab have received significant financial relief as the administration approved an 8 percent hike in their dearness allowance (DA). The decision addresses living costs amid the festive season by clearing two pending installments of 4 percent each in one go. Following this administrative clearance, the total dearness allowance entitlement for Punjab state personnel has reached the milestone figure of 50 percent.
Increased Payout to Credit With This Month's Salary
The implementation of this revision will be immediate, ensuring that staff members do not face procedural delays. The state government has decided that the revised 50 percent DA will be incorporated directly into the salary disbursed for the current month. With higher amounts hitting bank accounts right ahead of upcoming festivals, hundreds of thousands of public servants across the state are set to experience a noticeable bump in their take-home earnings, easing household budgets against ongoing inflation.
Agreement Reached in High-Level Meeting With Union Leaders
The consensus regarding the allowance hike was finalized during a high-level review meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Senior administration figures actively participated in the deliberations, including Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Aam Aadmi Party state president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, alongside Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.
On the employees' side, a delegation of 12 representatives from multiple worker federations and pensioner bodies took part in the negotiations. The employee groups represented at the table included the Sanjha Front of Pensioners, the Mulazim Manch, the Punjab Secretariat Association, and the Punjab Civil Secretariat Officers Association (Retd), among other key organizations. The discussions between government leadership and union delegates concluded with mutual agreement on resolving the pending allowances.
Two Separate Installments Combined for the Full Revision
Under the mutually accepted resolution, the overall 8 percent expansion in the dearness allowance combines two distinct installments of 4 percent each. This joint clearance bridges the pending revisions and formally establishes the 50 percent benchmark for the workforce. Because the administration has directed the revised rates to be folded into this month's payment schedule, workers will receive their upgraded pay packets without delay.
